NIO with Turvey and Filippi

The NIO Formula E team will consist of Oliver Turvey and Luca Filippi in the upcoming season.

It will be the third season for Turvey in the team, while Italian Filippi will get his FIA Formula E Championship debut.

Filippi is 32 years old and has done nearly everything in single seaters. He has participated in 7 seasons of GP2 and two seasons in Auto GP, while in the latter years, he has driven selected races in Indycar. He has been a Formula 1 test driver for Minardi and Honda. Championship wise he has finished second in GP2, GP2 Asia and Auto GP.

Oliver Turvey is 30 years old and has been through many different series over the years. After Formula BMW UK, he participated in Formula Renault 2.0, before doing a season in Formula Renault 3.5 and a few GP2 seasons. Alongside Formula E, he has also done some sportscar racing and he was part of the winning JOTA Sport team in LMP2 at Le Mans in 2014. He hasn’t had the greatest of success in Formula E so far, but the team haven’t really been at the top for those three seasons, and he has matched now former teammate Nelson Piquet Jr quite well in the results.

The car will be named NextEV NIO 003, which is the third version from the Chinese team, after they used the Renault drive train for the first season, where they won the Championship with Piquet Jr. This week they will be testing alongside all the other FIA Formula E Championship teams in Valencia in Spain, ahead of the season start in Hong Kong on 2 December.
