Scuderia Corsa enters Indy 500

Scuderia Corsa has been synonymous with Ferrari in the GTD category in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship plus GTE Am at Le Mans through the last few seasons, but the team will take on a brand new challenge this May.

Team owner Giacomo Mattioli has made a deal with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, to enter the Indianapolis 500 race, that runs on the final weekend of May.

It’s going to be the Spanish veteran driver Oriol Servia, who will pilot the white and yellow Dallara DW12 number #64 around the 2,5 miles oval.

Oriol Servia has had 201 starts in the IndyCar and ChampCar series, and has so far been a part of the 33 car large Indy 500 field 9 times.

But it’s not a given, that he will actually get to drive the 2018 edition of the race. The latest entry list contains 35 cars, and with just 33 starting slots, some actual qualifying is going to happen. But we have yet to see if all 35 entries are ready in May, since the basic entries in the Verizon IndyCar Series consist of 24 cars, with them being joined by some one-off entries for the prestigious Indy 500 race.

The plan so far, is to only participate at this single race for now.

The qualifying will be run on 19-20 May, before the race will be run on Sunday 27 May.
