VLN5 – Masterful Mercedes

Round 5 of the 2018 season was an elongated 6 hour affair. Big news from practice and qualifying was the burnt remains of Hunter Abbott’s BMW having to be withdrawn; Hunter was added to one of the BMW cup cars to at least get some fun. Surprises in the FIA WEC qualifying

The FIA World Endurance Championship qualifying at Silverstone was two times twenty minutes with full action from start to finish. The first 20 minutes started with the 19 GTE cars. Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK was the first to set a time in GTE Pro, but they were quickly split by Aston Martin Racing #97 and AF Corse Ferrari #71. The qualifying of European Le Mans Series 4 hour race was run at Silverstone in England. Seven GTE cars would be the first to start their quali. Spirit of Race Ferrari #55  quickly set a fast time, but they were beaten right away by Proton Competition Porsche #88 and Gulf Racing UK Porsche #86. All 34 FIA World Endurance Championship cars were on the track, when the third free practice was run at Silverstone this morning. Rebellion Racing #1 and ByKolles Racing Team #4 had both been repaired yesterday afternoon and evening, and were ready to go again. Toyota Gazoo Racing #8 was the fastest car, while SMP Racing #17 and #11 were the next in line.
