Sven Müller wins the Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup 2016 Championship

The title was secured at the final round of the year at the COTA track in Austin, Texas.

With a controlled ride, we saw the 24 year old driver secure the 2nd title in 2 weeks, after winning Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland last weekend.

Mathieu Jaminet won both races of the weekend, with Matteo Cairoli catching P2 ahead of Jeffrey Schmidt today. Müller finished 2nd yesterday ahead of Robert Lukas.

Cairoli lost the chances for the title yesterday when he had to retire from P1 with technical problems on his Porsche. He did however secure P2 ahead of Jaminet.

Thereby we have 3 Porsche Junior drivers taking all the 3 Championship trophies.

It will be very interesting to see what Sven Müller will be doing next year. He has had starts in both IMSA and FIA WEC, and he is unlikely to do another season in Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup. He will have a big bulls-eye painted on the back of his car, since everybody wants to beat the defending champion. And he really doesn’t have anything more to prove in those 2 series anyway.

But Porsche is most likely to enter 2 GTE-Pro cars for FIA WEC next year, so we will probably see him in one of those cars. Otherwise there will be a lot of Privateer teams all over the world, that would love to have Müller in their cars.

A big congratulations on your title, Sven Müller!
