MJP Racing Team Austria returns

MJP Racing Team Austria will return to the  FIA World Rallycross Championship during three events this year.

The Austrian team has participated for three full seasons in the World RX, but chose to cut down on their programme for the 2018 season.

But now three selected events has been announced.

The team has signed with Andrew Jordan and Toomas Heikkinen, who will drive the two Ford Fiesta LionRX3 cars during the World RX rounds at Silverstone in England, Loheac in France, and Estering in Germany.

Andrew Jordan had participated in selected World RX rounds, and did race for the team at Lydden Hill in 2017, where he made it to the semifinal, without previous test in the car. The majority of his racing is run in the BTCC, where he was the Champion in 2013.

Heikkinen most recently raced for Team EKS, but chose to break with the team ahead of the 2018 season. He signed with EKS after taken two wins for the privateer Marklund Motorsport team through 2014 and 2015, and even finishing second in the World Championship behind Petter Solberg in 2014. But he only managed to take four podiums during his two seasons at EKS – all while team boss Mattias Ekström was winning race after race, on his way to the World Championship. But hopefully this new team will bring from extra motivation for the Finn.

The FIA World Rallycross Championship round at Silverstone will be run on 26-27 May on the newly created Rallycross circuit.
