Spirit of Race goes back to Asia

Spirit of Race will return to the Asian Le Mans Series, when the 2018/19 season starts in Shanghai in November.

The team will enter a Ligier JSP2, and will have Pipo Derani, Alexander West and Come Ledogar behind the wheel.

Most people probably know the team from the FIA World Endurance Championship, where they race in a Ferrari 488 GTE in GTE Am, but they actually have history in the Asian Le Mans Series. The team raced in the series in both 2015/16 and 2016/17, and actually sparked the interest for the FIA WEC.

AF Corse will run the outfit, just like they did with the BBT LMP2 car, which finished second in the Asian LMS 2017/18. It’s not yet clear if BBT will return, or if it’s that exact that, that BBT utilized last season.

Pipo Derani drove for BBT, so the Brazilian already knows the tracks. He has been works driver at Ford Chip Ganassi Racing, but has also raced for Tequila Patron Extreme Speed Motorsports in the FIA WEC plus in the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

Come Ledogar is a former McLaren works driver, and had his first Le Mans start in 2018 with the Jackie Chan DC Racing team.

Swede Alexander West is the Am part in the car, and has experience from the Blancpain series amongst others.

The Asian Le Mans Series starts on 25 November at the Shanghai International Circuit in China.
