ELMS starts early tomorrow

The European Le Mans Series race at Spa Francorchamps will start earlier tomorrow. Instead of the planned start just past midday, the green flag will be shown at 10.45 CET, since a heavy rainfall is expected to hit the track around 15.00. But don’t expect a dry race for the 4 hours anyway, but it should intensify around 3 o’clock. The changes will result in the cancellation of the Pitwalk and Autograph session, but there is a risk of rain during that one anyway, which would had put a damper…

The championship not yet decided in the Saturday race

Hockenheim showed its best side, when this season’s penultimate race of ADAC GT Masters was run under clear blue sky and bone-dry asphalt. Nothing decided before the chequered flag in Spielberg

The DTM circus arrived in Spielberg, Austria, for 17th round of the season Saturday started with rain at the Red Bull Ring, which cause the teams to tear their hair out in the qualifying. Daniel Juncadella had taken Pole Position for Mercedes-AMG while Timo Glock had taken his yellow BMW to P2. Mike Rockenfeller was the best Audi man in P3, before the championship contender Paul Di Resta who would start fourth. The championship leader Gary Paffett was all the way back to P10 – just behind third driver in…

Cracked tub at Graff

The mechanics on Graff #39 have a long night ahead. Jonathan Hirschi crashed the car heavily during the Saturday practice session, and the team wasn’t able to get it ready for qualifying. It actually turns out now that the tub itself has cracked at the suspension mounting points. That’s a part of the carbon fibre monocoque, and not something that you can just change. So Graff went to TDS Racing, asking them for permission to borrow their ORECA 07 tub, which they had brought as a spare, and luckily got…

Emergency changes both IDEC Sport cars

Both IDEC Sport will start with different driver line-ups this weekend in the European Le Mans Series. Paul Lafargue has had an accident prior to the weekend, which is of so severe, that he has to go to the hospital for an operation. His father Patrice, won’t be present at the track this weekend either, to be with his son. Paul is usually piloting car #28, while Patrice is in #27. That results in the team having to call up on both team boss/reserve driver Nicolas Minassian for #27, while…

Surprises and dominance in the qualifying

After rain showers in the morning, the asphalt was almost dry again at the start of the European Le Mans Series qualifying at Spa Francorchamps, and it gave us a few surprises, but also domination by others. The Ferrari teams JMW Motorsport #66, Spirit of Race #55 and Krohn Racing #83 were swift to get on the track and start their flying laps, while the Porsche teams Proton Competition #77 and #88 plus Ebimotors #80 were a bit more relaxed. And absolutely nobody could match Proton Competition. They smacked up…

Plenty of stoppages in FP2

There were plenty of stoppages when the second Free Practice for the European Le Mans Series was run at Spa Francorchamps. Two red flags and a Full Course Yellow, mixed in with rain showers that were coming and going, making it hard for the teams to get any useful running done regarding set-ups or long runs. G-Drive Racing #26 with Jean-Eric Vergne was the fastest, while the track was still dry, followed by Duqueine Engineering #29 with Nicolas Jamin and IDEC Sport #28 with Paul Loup Chatin. In the LMP3…
