Female invasion in Formula E

There will be plenty of female drives on the entry list for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship test day.

Marrakesh has hosted the test day for the last few years, but that test has been moved forward, so the drivers will be in the cars on the day after the opening round in Ad Diriyah in Saudi Arabia.

There will be a minimum 7 females in action, and there are still a few available seats open, so there might be even more.

Several of the teams also put one or both of their full season drivers in the cars, so we won’t mention those.

Envision Virgin Racing has invited Amna Al Qubaisi, who usually races in Formula 4. Amna is daughter of regular sportscar racer, Khaled Al Qubaisi.

NIO Formula E Team has chosen the British racing driver Jamie Chadwick, who is a frontrunner in the BRDC British Formula 3 plus the British GT series.

Venturi Formula E Team has invited Simona de Silvestro, who has raced Indycar and current races in V8 Supercars in Australia.

Carmen Jorda will be driving for Nissan e.dams. Jorda was previously test driver for Renault and their Formula 1 team, but has raced in GP3 too.

Only a few weeks ago, we saw Tatiana Calderon testing for Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, but now she got the call from DS Techeetah regarding this test.

Beitske Visser has been a BMW driver for last few years, where GT4 racing has been her main job, but now she gets a chance in their Formula E car.

Mahindra Racing will field Katherine Legge. She already knows electric racing cars, since she races in the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY too, which is the new support series to Formula E. That comes on top of a lot of experience from various IMSA programmes plus Indycar and DTM.

An 8th driver was actually lined up too, but Sophia Flörsch had a very unfortunately accident in the Macau Formula 3 race, so she won’t have the opportunity to participate in this test.

Nico Müller will once again test for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, just like he did in Marrakesh earlier in the year.

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship test day will be run on 16 December 2019.
