Nielsen also part of Mid-Ohio race

Christina Nielsen will also race at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race in Mid-Ohio.

Heinricher Racing w. Meyer Shank Racing Acura #57 will once again be the work place for the rapid Dane. Nielsen was originally pulled in as the replacement for Jackie Heinricher at the Daytona 24 Hours race, where the car owner had to skip the race due to a back injury.

Later on she was announced to do all the Michelin Endurance Cup races for the team – that will be Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Petit Le Mans.

Nielsen will, just like at the two previous races, share the car with Katherine Legge.

While the Daytona race was ended in 12th position, the team ended 8th at Sebring, just 14 seconds from the winner of the GTD category. The team has therefore proven to be part of the front of the field – they just need a bit more luck with strategy, since they were on very old tires towards the end of of the Sebring race, while a lot of the competition were on brand new or less worn tires, and thus losing several positions over the final laps.

Christina Nielsen is so far only confirmed for this single extra race (plus the two remaining MEC races), so it’s still unclear if she will do the full IMSA season. The team has opted to only announce this race by race.

The IMSA race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will be run on 5 May 2019.
