AF Corse confirms GTE Am teams

AF Corse has confirmed the six drivers for the GTE Am cars in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The Am cars will run under the AF Corse name in the 2019/20 season, instead of the Spirit of Race brand, that has been used in Am for the last few years.

There are no changes to the #54 line-up, as Thomas Flohr, Francesco Castellacci and Giancarlo Fisichella return in the silver VistaJet sponsored Ferrari 488 GTE. That will be the third season for the three drivers in the FIA WEC, and they have slowly gotten more and more up to speed. They finished fourth in the 2018/19 Championship amongst the GTE Am teams, but with the same points as TF Sport in third.

Car #83 will be with Francois Perrodo back in GTE Am, after a couple of seasons in LMP2. He will be paired up with his countryman and mentor, Emmanuel Collard, as well as Danish driver Nicklas Nielsen. Nielsen has really burst onto the scene at Ferrari this year, participating in the full European Le Mans Series for Luzich Racing, and now getting his FIA WEC debut – with Le Mans debut in 2020. While Nielsen is a debutant, we have Collard in the complete opposite end of the scale, with 23 Le Mans starts. He has been missing from the grid in both 2018 and 2019, but will now return in 2020. He currently sits just 10 starts short of equalling the record for most starts in the race – 33 by Henri Pescarolo.

The FIA World Endurance Championship 2019/20 season starts in just under three weeks’ time, when the Prologue will be run at Circuit de Catalunya in Spain, while the season really gets going on 1 September at Silverstone in England.
