BMW hires new driver for Formula E

BMW i Andretti Motorsport has hired a new driver for their ABB FIA Formula E Championship programme.

Maximilian Günther is the new man in the white and blue driving suit. He has one season of experience from the Formula E series, where he did an almost full season for the GEOX Dragon team.

Antonio Felix da Costa is no longer part of BMW Motorsport. He has been with the German manufacturer for six years, through DTM, WEC, Formula E and various GT series. He just got hired by JOTA Sport for their FIA WEC programme, in their LMP2 car.

Günther was part of the Formula BMW Talent Cup in 2011, but has otherwise been part of the Mercedes junior programme, until that collaboration ended in 2018. But BMW has picked him up again, being what they believe is the new star, to pick up some electric trophies for them.

BMW hasn’t announced the second driver in the Formula E programme just yet, which could indicate that it’s no given to be Alexander Sims, who partnered up with Felix da Costa during the 2018/19 season.

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship season starts on 22-23 November in Saudi Arabia.
