United Autosports reveals LMP3 drivers

United Autosports has revealed their six drivers for the LMP3 cars in the European Le Mans Series 2020.

There is one change compared to what was previously announced by the team.

Duncan Tappy will replace Matt Bell in car #3. Tappy is a very experienced racing driver, and was part of the title battle in the Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2019, until his teammate had a massive accident at Circuit de Catalunya, so the team wasn’t able to participate in the race. He will share the car with Jim McGuire and Andrew Bentley

Car #2 will be very interesting this year. There is the potential for it to be monster fast.

Wayne Boyd is back at UA for his fifth season and will be experienced driver on the car. He has raced in both LMP3 and LMP2 for the team, but his focus this year will be LMP3 in both ELMS and Michelin Le Mans Cup.

He will be joined by Rob Wheldon. Wheldon got a sensational debut in the Michelin Le Mans Cup finale in Portimao 2019, where he won the race together with Alex Kapadia for RLR MSport in an impressive fashion. Richard Dean and Zak Brown quickly spotted that and struck a deal with him for this season.

The third driver on the car will be Tom Gamble. Despite his just 18 years of age, he has already got a huge accomplishment on his CV. He won the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award title in 2018, just like so many British Formula 1 drivers have done in the past. The single-seater route, however, seemed to close down for Gamble, so now he has made a multiyear deal with UA. He could very well turn into being the next Phil Hanson on the team, who is currently impressing in their LMP2 material.

If those three drivers can keep the car on the track, by avoiding contact and technical issues, then the other LMP3 team would really have to be on their toes to keep up with them.

Both cars will be the brand new Ligier JS P320.

European Le Mans Series 2020 starter den første weekend i april på Circuit de Catalunya i Spanien.
